What is R2 Certification
The R2:2013 Standard is the latest version of R2, the electronics recycling industry's leading certification. Each provision of the R2 Standard is designed to help ensure the quality, transparency, and environmental and social responsibility, of R2 Certified electronics recycling facilities.
SERI is the housing body and ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization for the R2 Standard. While development and oversight of the R2 certification program is SERI's primary activity, SERI is engaged in other activities which will help accomplish its mission.
It was developed by the R2 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) as the next generation of the standard and clarifies requirements, improves the readability and understanding of the standard, provides additional best industry practices and enhances the quality of certification.
The R2 certification program was developed to ensure used and end-of-life electronics are reused and recycled in a way that protects data, preserves resources, protects the environment and protects the health and safety of workers and communities.

R2 Certification - Summary
r2 certification costs
The R2 Certification is provided by third party registrars which is overseen by SERI the governing body for the R2 Standard. SERI charges an annual licensing fee of $2000/year. The third party registrars typically charge a day rate of $1500/day and the number of days is dependent on the size of your company and processes employed among other factors.

r2 or e-stewards certification - right choice ?
Recyclers can be certified to show their conformance to these standards. One is called the e-Stewards Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment®, known as e-Stewards, and the other is called Responsible Recycling (R2) Practices, known as R2.
